JOB SUMMARY

The Scribe accompanies the physician into the patient exam room in order to transcribe a history, physical exam, patient instructions, disposition, and document accurately the physician's encounter with the patient and others present. Has basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, surgery, diagnostic tests, pharmacology and the various medical specialties. Displays professional appearance and conduct while promoting an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation. Maintain and demonstrate an understanding of the team approach to patient care and documentation. Knowledge of organizational policies, and computer applications. Proficiently navigates the electronic medical record. Excellent time management, organization and communication skills (written and verbal) are required. Demonstrates an ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy in accordance with governing regulations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Scribe acts as an assistant to the medical provider by documenting the medical chart of each patient within the electronic medical record. Primary responsibilities include documentation of accurate and entailed information of patient visits, accompanying the provider throughout the patient visit, and complying with privacy policies. The ideal candidate with provide the highest quality customer service to patient, adhere to practice protocols and processes, and effectively manage the volume of work without allowing quality to be compromised.Scribes accompany the physician upon patient interview and examination.Scribes document the physician dictated patient history, including history of present illness, review of systems, past medical and surgical history, family and social histories, medications and allergies.Scribes document physical examination findings and procedures as performed by the physician.Scribes document the results of laboratory and radiographic studies as dictated by the physician.Scribes document the correct time of patient care related activities, including physician to physician communication, family communication and re-examination of the patient.When the physician concludes the patients encounter, the scribe will review with the provider the documentation for accuracy.Maintain and demonstrate an understanding of the team approach to patient care and documentation.Complete and present the medical record in collaboration with the supervising physician.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Graduate. Minimum one-year and 2 shifts per week availability to work. Strong computer/typing skills required. Medical terminology experience in a clinical setting or completion of a medical terminology course preferred. Healthcare student physician, nursing, physician assistant, healthcare administration, etc. preferred.
