Responsible for performing ultrasounds in a professional and diagnostic manner. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images The sonographer must thoroughly understand the operation of the ultrasound machine and utilize new technologies. Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with patients and all organizational staff. Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the sonography field. Has the knowledge and ability to observe/evaluate and participate in the educational processes of Sonography and Radiologic Technology students when appropriate. Assists when necessary with the maintenance of accreditation requirements and processes. The sonographer must adhere to safety and infection control policies established by Sanford. Sonographer will perform a variety of ultrasound exams which include but are not limited to OB/GYN, Abdomen, vascular, small parts, neonatal, and guidance for invasive Radiology procedures. Performs ultrasounds on an in- patient and outpatient basis. Also provides outreach services when necessary. Works with a diverse population of patients. Helps orientate and train new employees. Works as a team to fulfill tasks assigned to them for efficiencies and accreditation of the ultrasound department. May work various shifts and hours on a rotational basis. This may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and on call.
Completion of an allied health certificate or an approved school of Diagnostic Imaging is preferred. Must be licensed with the State of North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (MIRT) board. Must be registered in at least one are of ultrasound from the ARDMS or Registry eligible. Applicant must obtain registration within 2 years of hire. Each employee will be evaluated individually based on their education and Registry eligibility. CPR certification required within six weeks of employment, re-certification as needed. High school diploma or equivalent level of education. Completion of an allied health certificate or an approved school of Diagnostic Imaging preferred, but not required.
