JOB SUMMARY

Provides nursing care for patients with obstetric and gynecologic needs during labor delivery and postpartum. Provides nursing care for patients with obstetric and gynecologic needs during labor delivery and postpartum; identifies additional needs for mothers and babies in birthing units. Monitors patients' condition during high-risk pregnancies and assists in examinations and procedures. Provides guidance to expectant mothers in prenatal self-care, e.g. nutrition, weight gain, and daily activity levels. Maintains records of patient conditions and test results within care plans.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and implement individualized plans for women's health care management. Document patients' health histories, symptoms, physical conditions, or other diagnostic information. Consult with or refer patients to appropriate specialists when conditions exceed the scope of practice or expertise. Establish practice guidelines for specialty areas such as primary health care of women, care of the childbearing family,. Plan, provide, or evaluate educational programs for nursing staff, health care teams, or the community. Delivers written and oral communication, responds to questions and concerns, and produce specific outcomes and impact. Builds a rapport with the patient and explains the condition and course of action effectively. Coordination and management of care for patients, including those with complex needs. Effectively delegates and supervises based on ones state practice act and an understanding of the concepts of responsibility, authority, and accountability. Performing age related patient assessments and nursing interventions. Responsible for promoting a safe environment for patients, families, staff, residents, and visitors and working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary health care team to provide the best outcomes for patients.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

Hours will vary as the triage is 24/7. Typically two clinic days and one triage shift per week. The position has the responsibility of covering triage at Labor and Delivery with OBGYN as well as being an independent CNM provider in the clinic. We have 7 full time CNMs currently.

QUALIFICATIONS

Currently holds an unencumbered license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) based on state requirements and Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM). Must maintain current registered nursing (RN) license and APRN CNM licensure where the practice is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Must work within the legal scope of practice and subject to the states legal constraints and regulations for all licenses held. Required to pass certification examination as stipulated by the appropriate state board. Must obtain and maintain appointment at their respective Sanford facility. Obtain and maintain approval of applicable scope of practice. Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred. Must provide Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number. Valid drivers license. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications. Masters degree, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) level education required from an approved accredited nursing educational program of the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) and American Midwifery Certification Board Medical (AMCB).
