The Senior Clinical Research Specialist (CRS) is an advanced research position that involves a balance of clinical patient contact, research study coordination, grant, protocol and manuscript development (if applicable), qualitative or quantitative data collection or analysis and management of study data. This position may spend up to 30% of effort providing basic project management assistance to the Project Management team (i.e. retrospective study set-up, case report form development, etc.).This individual must have the ability to organize complex components of various research projects and clinical trials, including coordination of study required testing and procedures. In addition, the CRS is responsible for insurance pre-authorization for study participation, as applicable by study. If applicable, this position requires close collaboration with physician investigators to ensure safe and compliant investigational treatment or intervention and follow-up per the established research protocol. Critical thinking, self-motivation and direction, as well as autonomy are critical to the daily tasks that are carried out in partnership with the physician investigators and other members of the research team.Reviews inclusion/exclusion criteria and source documents to confirm study eligibility. Prepares case report forms and collects source documents for sponsor or audit review. Abstracts data from medical records, clinic, consultation and referral notes for preparation of study forms and flow sheets. Enthusiasm for learning is required as is participation in educating patients, physicians, nurses, and other personnel to the research process. Reviews protocol requirements and collaborates with ancillary departments (e.g., clinic nursing, infusion nursing, pharmacy, radiology, pathology, nurse navigators, dieticians, and laboratory personnel) to ensure subject safety and protocol compliance. Attends and participates in research team meetings. Assists in study design and methodology and has the ability to lead data analysis and interpretation of study findings. Expertise in running analytics in R and/or SAS and willingness to learn new data analysis platforms. May assist in the preparation and submission institutional review board documents. When applicable, able to obtain informed consent from research subjects prior to any study-related procedures and documents the informed consent process per regulatory. Demonstrates the ability to take charge, take unpopular stands if necessary, face difficult situations, and provide direction for others. Facilitates and supports change within a consistently growing research department. Seeks opportunities to develop and maintain skills and competence in clinical research. Attends required educational and competency programs. Demonstrates and applies continuous quality improvement knowledge and skills.


Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of clinical research or relevant research experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of clinical research and certification from either SoCRA or ACRP as a Certified Clinical Research Professional, or Master’s degree in a health related field required.
