The DeGroot Center offers ethics consultation services, advance care planning assistance, education resources, and integrative health care. This internship is researching, compiling, analyzing, and evaluating data about Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and providing an effective tool to communicate the results. Intern will assist with planning and fall programming for The DeGroot Center.
Contribute to Sanford operations and processes while obtaining first hand experiences that align with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.Work collaboratively with organization leadership, enhancing knowledge and skills and improving the delivery of quality healthcare. Assist in the completion of projects and administrative duties while developing skills related to the assigned function and/or location. Attend training and development opportunities, learning about various processes and functions within the organization.
Specific Project: Intern will assist in the coordination of fall programming which includes: Mindfulness classes, Community Education, and Embedded Ethics.
Specific project: Intern will research, compile and analyze data while contributing to a Performance Improvement Project, providing an effective tool to communicate the results.
Mentor/Preceptor specific activities that pertain to the position: Intern will have 1-on-1 mentor sessions, and will have opportunities to attend Nursing Ethics Committee meetings, Palliative Care Journal Club, Sanford Biomedical Ethics Committee meetings, Integrative Health meetings and other department meetings.
Normal day-to-day: Compile and evaluate data and create effective ways to communicate the results.
Normal day-to-day activities: Assist The DeGroot Center staff with daily tasks as needed such as putting together packets for Advance Care Planning or making follow up phone calls, and assist with the quarterly newsletter.
Normal day-to-day: Participate and contribute in meetings and make contacts in planning the fall programming.
Potential unexpected activities: Participate in special events that may be pertinent to project such as community education.
Potential unexpected activities: Intern may participate in other areas within the DeGroot Center (Ethics, Integrative Health, and Advance Care Planning) as interests and time allows.

Demonstrates a basic understanding of organizational project management practices and tools. Researches business related data and generates and interprets basic analytics. Collaborates with departmental associates and management.
Intern must be eager, energetic, and self-motivated. He/she must be able to be analytical as well as personable and be able to collaborate with others. Must be a Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing, social work, philosophy, pre med, or business or an immediate graduate having received one of the previously listed majors or the like may have preference. Must be able to commit to the hours Scheduled during the 12-week internship. Strong communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
