Performs diagnostic computed tomography (CT) scan images. Produces quality computed tomography exam images and exercise professional judgement in the performance of procedures. Provides for patient care and initiates life support measure as necessary. Interacts effectively with patients, physicians, family members, department staff, and healthcare workers. Possesses the skills and knowledge to operate CT equipment to produce quality CT scans as well as the ability to perform related procedures and protocols. Has the ability to learn and utilize new technology as well as orient new employees. Possesses the ability to professionally obtain information from patients or their responsible parties to further improve their personalized treatment and care. On a continuum, the CT Technologist works to develop an understanding of the patients physical and emotional status. Works well with all age groups. Rural Sanford sites may expand job responsibilities based on the needs of the facility, to include, but not limited to: on-call rotation nights, weekends, and holidays. Perform diagnostic radiology procedures. Perform basic diagnostic radiology tasks and aware of general radiology protocols. May perform mobile imaging, EKG, cardiac monitor placement, and DEXA procedures.
Prepares intravenous drugs and intravenous therapy administration equipment. Identifies the primary means of communication and their appropriateness for different occasions. Collect and maintain records of patients examined, examinations performed, patient medical histories, views taken, or technical factors used. Maintain a current file of examination protocols. Documents defective equipment and reports it to an appropriate supervisor. Recognizes changing demands and priorities; validates changes with management. Follows pre-established patient safety guidelines. Adjusts to new or changing assignments, processes, and people. Seeks opportunities to embrace challenging tasks while maintaining a positive attitude. Conducts preparatory work during the scanning process, such as patient positioning and instructing.
This position is shared between both Tracy and Westbrook Radiology Departments, performing both X-Ray and CT's and at Tracy we perform EKG and apply Holter Monitors. Monday through Friday hours are 7-5 during clinic hours and Saturdays are from 8-12 during clinic hours. Rotation of staff to cover call during off hours, weekends and holidays.
Active registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or the registry-eligible technologist must complete the registry examination at the earliest testing dates following employment, and all subsequent dates thereafter until the exam is satisfactorily completed is required. If working in North Dakota and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, licensure through the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (NDMIRT) Board of Examiners is required. If the individual fails the Entry Level exam two consecutive times, there will be an evaluation by the Department Director who will determine one of the following: Continue employment if overall job performance is satisfactory. If the employee is allowed to continue employment, failure to pass the exam on the third opportunity will result in immediate termination. Maintain certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required. Maintain current state of Iowa licensure with general and CT endorsements is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) and I.V. certification within six weeks of employment and re-certification as necessary is required. Completion of an educational program and clinical experience accepted by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic Technology training in an American Medical Association (AMA) approved school or Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT) accredited program is required.
